  • Kier Transportation have partnered with West Northamptonshire Highways to deliver improvement work to the Queen Eleanor Interchange in Northampton, which links the A45 with the A5076 Mereway.

    Full overnight closures will take place for resurfacing between 8pm and 6am.

    Monday 24th November - Sunday 7th December
    East Side (Hardingstone Lane / Newport Pagnell Road)

    Monday 8th December - Friday 19th December
    West Side (Mere Way / London Road)

    A clearly signed diversion route will be in place, but please be aware and plan your journey accorddingly.

  • The Northampton Winter Light Trail takes place at Delapré Abbey, London Road, Northampton, NN4 8AW

    Only a six minute drive from Junction 15 of the M1, Delapré Abbey is easily accessible whether you’re travelling from the North or South.

    From J15 simply follow the A45 north towards the town centre and you’ll find Delapré Abbey located just off the A45 on London Road (A508).

    From central Northampton, take the A508 southbound towards the M1 junction 15. The Abbey is on a turning to your left/east about 1 mile from the town centre.

    Please be aware that the drive leading to Delapré Abbey is a single lane only, with several passing places. Parking is not permitted anywhere on the driveway.

    The postcode for Delapré Abbey is NN4 8AW however please take note that some satnavs do not read this address correctly so we suggest you check before you travel.

  • On site parking must be booked in advance, and you can do this when booking your tickets. Parking has been upgraded from previous years to accommodate our Light Trail visitors.

    Parking for the light trail is £5, with £1 of this going towards the Delapré Abbey Trust.

    Blue badge holders will receive free car parking, YOU DO NOT NEED TO BOOK IN ADVANCE. Please bring your blue badge with you.

    When parking is not available during the booking process, this means that it is fully booked. Please seek alternative parking options within the town centre.

    There are plenty of public car parks within close proximity to Delapré.

  • Yes, the trail is dog friendly, however we ask you keep your dog on a lead and on the path at all times, clean up after your dog and ensure you are keeping the wildlife of the grounds safe.

  • As the Great British weather is unpredictable, we suggest wearing winter boots or wellies (and definitely not brand new white trainers!) and a suitable outdoor coat to keep you warm and dry!

    Be aware that some areas of the trail are likely to get a bit muddy if it rains, so please dress accordingly.

  • There is no set “close” time for the trail, and guests in the last session will have plenty of time to walk around at their leisure, without being rushed.

    You must enter the trail within your booked 20 minute time slot. The box office and trail entrance will close 30 minutes after the last session time.

    The food village will close when the last visitors have left.

  • There is no set time limit for the Light Trail. It includes a number of stunning installations, soundscapes, illuminations and interactive activities. You are welcome to wander through it and take everything in at your own pace.

    Please note that your ticket will include a 20 minute entry window, this is not the duration of your booking, just the time period that you need to enter within.

    The trail entrance will close 30 minutes after the last session time. Please be advised that, although you can take as long as you like to wander around, once you finish the trail there is no re-entry.

    So take your time to take it all in whilst you’re on the trail…

  • Due to capacity you will need to stick to your allotted time slot.

    Please note, if you are on the last slot and running late, we may not be able to accommodate you on the trail that evening. Please ensure you enter at your allocated time.

    If you are early you will have to wait until your time slot starts before you can enter the trail. Please make sure you arrive for your booked entry time.

  • If the weather presents a hazard and a risk to safety, any decision to cancel the Winter Light Trail will be taken by 2pm on the day.

    You will be notified by email and you will be informed of your options and the re-booking process, both by Northampton Winter Light Trail AND SeeTickets. Please ensure you have both senders marked as safe and check your junk folder in the event of hazardous weather.

    We will also share on our social media platforms @northamptonwinterlighttrail in the event of any cancellation.

  • Our tickets operate on a super off peak / off peak / standard / peak basis.

    Child: Age 3-15 inclusive
    Adult: Age 16-59 inclusive
    Concession: Age 60+
    Family: 2 adults & 2 children

    For infants under 2, you will need to add a FREE infant ticket to your order when booking your tickets.

    Please be aware that anyone with a child ticket MUST be accompanied by an adult.

    Should you require a carer/PA to accompany you on your visit, you must purchase a ticket for yourself, and then add a FREE carer ticket during booking. When prompted, please upload your required supporting document to validate your carer ticket.

    SeeTickets will contact you if they require further information. If you do not hear from SeeTickets before your visit then your carer ticket is valid.

  • Unfortunately if you are unable to add all the required tickets to your booking, the session is almost at capacity. In this case, please try an alternative session.

    If a session is showing as "Not Available" then it is fully booked.

    We recommend booking as early as possible to avoid disappointment as many key dates will sell out.

  • A child is someone aged 3-15 inclusive.

    For children aged 2 or under it is free of charge, however you need to obtain a free infant ticket when purchasing adult tickets.

    ALL CHILD TICKET HOLDERS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT.

  • You will receive an e-ticket. You will not receive a physical ticket for this event. Your e-ticket can be added to your wallet, shown on your email or printed off. You must show your QR code on your email on entry.

    Please check your junk if you cannot find this email.

  • Unfortunately this means the timeslot is now at capacity, and whilst we appreciate you’d like to go round together, we must limit sessions to ensure everyone gets the best experience possible. We would advise booking additional guests into the session directly before or after yours, as once you are within the trail during your allotted time slot, you are free to go round at your own pace.

  • You will be able to change the date of your booking to a like-for-like session (subject to availability) through the SeeTickets booking portal, here.

    You can also contact SeeTickets customer service directly via the portal.

    If you have booked parking with your session, unfortunately you will not be able to transfer to an alternative session if the one you wish to move to has sold out parking.

  • If you booked the wrong location, you can contact See Tickets to change your booking here.

  • Unfortunately if a session is unavailable, that means we have sold out and you will need to book for the next available slot.

    Should there be availability you will be able to pay on the door, but it is advised to book in advance to get your space.

    Please note on the door tickets will be more expensive than in advance. We can only accept card payment for on the door sales.

  • If you have refund protection, you can contact SeeTickets through the order management platform to request your refund. Click here to access the platform.

    Refunds are managed entirely through SeeTickets.

    If you did not purchase refund protection, as stated in our terms, tickets are non-refundable. If you cannot make the date, you can change your session to an alternative subject to availability, or give your tickets to a friend.

    Once uploaded, SeeTickets will review and reach out should they require further information. If you do not hear from SeeTickets then your carer ticket is valid for your booking!

    Please note that carer tickets must only be booked on the expectation that they are willing and able to assist you throughout your visit, and would be available and able to help you in the event of an evacuation.

    We cannot refund any tickets purchased for your PA/Carer if you have purchased one by mistake.

  • New for 2025, we are delighted to offer SEN sessions.

    These will offer:

    • Quieter soundscapes

    • Twilight times for a less intense light experience

    • Limited capacity to ensure a comfortable visit for SEN customers

    SEN sessions are available on the following dates:

    • Wednesday 3rd December - 4pm

    • Wednesday 10th December - 4pm

    Please enter the trail from 4pm-4:20pm, and enjoy a relaxed walk taking in all the displays.

    Please be aware that as the next non-SEN sessions begin (5pm), the volume will begin to increase through the trail, starting from the first display and this will be gradually staggered through the trail. Capacity for each session from 5pm onwards on these dates will also increase.

    The trail ends at our food village and the volume of music in this area will be quieter for the duration of the SEN session. Music in the food village will be turned up from 6pm.

    We politely ask that other guests respect the SEN sessions and avoid booking them if they do not need to.

ACCESSIBILITY FAQs

  • The Light Trail has been designed to be as accessible as possible, and is approximately one mile in length.

    There is hard standing in some areas of the trail, and matting paths through some areas of the woodland. In the woodland areas, there is uneven ground, some slopes, a ramp, and wood chip is used in some areas to prevent mud as much as possible. If it rains, access may be difficult in this area. Four-wheel drive buggies are advisable. If you have access requirements and the day you have purchased for has adverse weather, then please contact us and we will amend your booking for a future date.     The food village will be accessible as well as wheelchair user friendly, although unforuntaely due to the design of the mini chalets, these are not accessible.

    Disabled parking is free and toilet facilities are available.

  • If you require a carer to accompany you on your visit, please ensure you add a FREE carer ticket to your order when booking.

  • Strobe and laser lighting is used within the trail, and bypass routes will be signposted for those who prefer or need to avoid these.

  • Blue badge holders will receive free car parking, YOU DO NOT NEED TO BOOK IN ADVANCE. Please bring your blue badge with you.

  • Unfortunately not. The trail will be too busy and the paths are not suitable.

REFRESHMENTS & FACILITIES FAQs

  • At the trail we will have a wonderful selection of sweet and savoury options to enjoy, the food village can be found as you enter the trail and can be accessed both before and after your visit.

    Bookable private chalets are also available, serving up a selection of festival favourites and warming hot chocolate. You can find more information about mini chalets here!

    Vegan and vegetarian food options available. Please speak to the vendors if you have any specific dietary requirements.

    You do not need a ticket to enter this area.

  • You’ll find delicious festive Yorkshire pudding wraps (with all the trimmings!), festive Greek gyros, burgers, bratwurst, loaded fries and more for savoury options.

    For those with a sweet tooth, enjoy churros, doughnuts, sweets, baked treats and toasting marshmallows.

  • The bar serves a huge variety of drinks, from warming hot chocolates, tea, coffee or mulled wine, to frosty biers, festive cocktails and fizz, as well as your favourite soft drinks!

  • The food village will be open until all visitors have finished enjoying food & drinks! You will not be rushed, and will have plenty of time after your trail session (including if you are the last session of the night) to eat, drink and be merry!

    You can book a mini chalet for before or after your light trail session. We would advise allowing an hour to enjoy the trail fully before your mini chalet.

    Please be aware that the trail entrance will close 30 minutes after the last session.

  • There will be toilet facilities on site situated within the house itself and we are planning to include toilets within the trail this year. This will be confirmed as soon as possible.

SANTA’S GROTTO FAQs

  • You will need to book Santa’s Grotto either BEFORE or AFTER your light trail adventure.

    If you’re booking AFTER your light trail session, we recommend allowing at least 1 hour to enjoy the trail fully and at a relaxed pace.

    If you are booking Santa’s Grotto BEFORE your light trail session, please allow 5 minutes per child to see Santa. For example, if you have a Light Trail session at 6pm, and 2 children for Santa’s Grotto, we would suggest 5:45pm and 5:50pm Grotto times.

    You are reminded that you MUST enter the light trail within your 20 minute session time.

    You will be prompted during check out to add information about your child so we can ensure Santa and his elves choose the perfect gift for them!

  • Please check in with an Elf at Delapré Abbey’s visitor entrance / shop!
